[this has been sitting in my drafts for weeks oops]
Beatles slap ngl, for some reason they have been my go-to music as of late. Very chill review for a very chill day back at work (I'm procrastinating again by writing this blog). There are several very stale donuts in the office and I dropped sprinkles everywhere.
HITC review!: Head in the Clouds was physically brutal ngl. Standing for 6+ hours in the heat was so intense I think I threw my back out. I slept for 12+ hours the next day. However, the music listening and community experience was t.o.p. n.o.t.c.h.
I went expecting to mostly enjoy DPR Live and Ian since I'm the most familiar with their music... BUT YOASOBI WENT SO INCREDIBLY HARD. Since this was Yoasobi's first time performing in the US, a lot of people came to HITC mainly for them, and I can confirm the crowd reflected that. It was the most energetic and hype crowd, even compared to Zedd (which convinced me that going to a rave would be fun). I got chills with how dialed in the entire venue was to this one performance. Sharing a love for music is such an incredibly intimate experience, so the whole PLUR and rave culture stuff started making sense. After the Yoasobi night, we blasted their music in the car as we were lining up to leave, and everyone was so positive and hype.
NOT TO MENTION, the finale where Yoasobi had a crossover with Atarashi Gakko???? Insanity.
Selected specific reviews:
- DPR: (5/5) DPR was my top Spotify artist last year. Seeing the performance live was awesome, but unfortunately I did not have the best view. The crowd was dope for this though :)
- Notable Mentions: Rina Sawayama had a sick performance. I want to listen to more of her music again. XG slayed as usual, but Niki was lowkey disappointing. Zedd was unexpectedly hype, and Jackson Wang was hyperventilating because of the heat :(
- Honda: (5/5) My friend drove a Honda and because of this, we got free VIP :^)
- Ritz Carlton: (3/5) I crashed with another friend at her very fancy work hotel. I can confirm I would not pay whatever the sticker price is for this hotel. The bed was lovely and there was a sick rooftop pool, but not worth $400+ a night.
LA review: LA is a quirky city. It is neither walkable nor driveable, and yet it has so much to offer. I love the city vibe and it's very nice to work there, but idk if I could live there longterm. Maybe the more beachy areas are nicer (they remind me of Florida lmao). I feel like people in LA are haters, whereas people in SF are not as aggressive (but maybe more passive aggressive).
Regularly scheduled content:
Research Update: Still procrastinating, but I got feedback that said "If you actually do all of that it would be a very nice AA290 project" and that "It's all about the execution now". So CLEARLY I've been set up for success...but I have to actually do it :(!
Lifting Update: Bench plateau, but I think it's time for me to actually start programming? Maybe nsuns, maybe normal powerlifting program.
Art Tabling Update: N/A :(
Another 3 Brown Sugar Shaken Espressos have been consumed.
